Course Title: Leisure & American Lifestyle
Professor: Dr. Catherine E. Dorwart
Class Visitation Report
The main topic was “Motivation”. The professor defined the motivation first, and then identified a variety of motivations for participation in recreation. She kept asking students questions and everyone was involved in the class. One of the topics is recreation in the lives of children. She mentioned that overscheduled child and asked us did we take some classes such as piano, violin classes after school. It recalls me when I was young; I went to cram school after class and to do homework or to review the lessons there. Many people think children will stand pressures. Indeed, I didn’t feel many pressures. I made lots of friends and the teacher taught me how to write my homework. And she taught us Maslow’s hierarchy of needs and some motivation concepts which I learned that before, so I am familiar with these parts.

Course Title: Intro Philosophy
Professor:Richard L. Gallimore
The topic was "Does God exist?". The professor began to show how people think about God. He also explained that what kind of argument there were before. After that, the lecturer asked students how they think of God; it exists or not. Some students showed their opinions or attitudes. People answered the question were only 5 or 6 even though there were about 70 students in the class. The professor said that we don't believe God, but do believe a rumor without a evidence. To respond this, one of students mentioned "Big-food" as a example. I was a little surprised by that, because it was a keen example. Finally, the professor said that there were religions and the word "God" hundreds years ago. He concluded that God has been existed in our mind even though it is invisible or not located.

Course Title: Intro Hospitality Tourism Management
Professor: Joseph A. Brown
Class Visitation Report
There were 8 round tables in the classroom. Since students sat in circle some of them were turning their back at the professor, which is unlikely to happen in Korea. The professor explained a lot of ideas in each three topics - professional organizations, professionalism and etiquette, careers in hospitality tourism management. I was particularly attracted to parts regarding restaurants and catering services which have relation with my major. It was interesting to find out possible careers in restaurants and catering services in America.

Course Titile: intro Sociology
Professor:Jonathon S. Epstein
The lecturer explained the definition of a group; that is to share ideas or behavior... and he said that one person could affect the whole group like Jesus. After that, he referred the difference between Philosophy and Sociology a little bit. And he explained the definition of Sociology with many examples. It actually was difficult to me because of three reasons; the lecturer didn't speak up, He didn't say what the definitions were at the beginning, and he used many examples. I got the points of the lecture, but didn't catch specific details. If I had a next chance, I would sit near the front of the class room.

Course Title: religion & contempry culture
Professor:matthew j. mckinnon
the main subject of this class was the theories bout religion.
the professor started saying how they don't work, and the reason is that they "treat religion as a thing it self"
religion is not just a system of ideas, is always part of a context, witch includes geography, location, besides many others.
in order to define religion it is necessary to consider all the factors.
he explained the two main lines of theories to define religion.
romantic and materialist.
he end up the class citing marx:
religion is the opium of the mass.
the class was great, it was in a auditorium completely full, the professor was talking incredibly fast, and i could understand everything.

Course Title: Elementary Chinese.
Professor: Chengnian Wu.
The professor began the lecture with the history of China and he said that it is one of the oldest civilizations. One of the students asked about china’s economy and is it going to be the strongest country. The lecturer responded that there is possibility. He also mentioned that some people said in the past that Japan will be the strongest soon, but it didn’t. However, I chose this class because I am a little interested in Chinese.
this class was not much different than KSA's class. I didn't notice any.

Class Visitation Report
It was good chance to know the interest about other language in Americans. They tried to learn the other language. It was interesting as a learning English student in the U.S.A. Moreover, I learned Chinese culture, and history. Like the name of course, the class level was basic. Professor thought number (from 1 to 10), pronunciation, intonation, and Chinese letters. Chinese letters are consists of lots of letters, so learning Chinese is too hard. However, in my case, I am from Asian culture, so, all contents of class was easy to me.

Course Title: Beginning Spanish Ⅰ
Professor: Laura Lopez
Class Visitation Report
In the class not only the professor but also students spoke Spanish. So I couldn't catch up with considerable part. In the beginning students had a simple test. They were required to write down numbers spoken in Spanish by the professor. After the quiz class reviewed numbers in Spanish. Then they moved to conversation about date and time. The professor kept asking some questions and students answered to her without hesitation. It was interesting to see students actively participating in the class.

Professor: Jeffery B. West
Class Visitation Report
All students and the professor brought a book "A raisin in the sun". The professor segmented the play into three acts and divided acts into a few scenes. Students were required to describe major events in each scene. Students voluntarily expressed their ideas. Then several students took turn in reading scene2 of act1. Since it is not common to see students acting a play in an university course in Korea, it was pretty interesting sight. However as I didn't have the book which everyone else had class was slightly boring.

Professor: Joyce G. Ferguson
Class Visitation Report
Before starting the class, students made groups. For 30minutes, they discussed about their topics. Each group has their topics. They researched and discussed about other country and other group supposing they met other group in business situations. Different to the U.S.A, some countries, like Japan, Saudi Arabia, has high-text culture. They learned some information related to that. Left 20 minutes, each group present in front of class. Comparing to my university class, this class was basic and focusing on principal.

I was glad to attend this class, becuase it was time to me to make a friend in here. there were 60~70 students were in the class, but all of them were freshman, so they really wanted to make a foreign friend and had a curious. I met James who from Greensboro
Anyway, as the other business skill, it was slightly boring, because thier focus of the class is explaning. some of the students asked several questions, but I thought that almost students were boring, as me. They watched to the projector, and the Prof. explained some second chapter of the textbook. last of the class, they talked about shaking economy, such as AIG of dishonor.

At the beginning of the class, the lecturer divided the students into several groups. Each one should think if they met a business group from another country and different culture would it be inconvenient to work with them or not. Fortunately, the group next to me was discussing about Saudi Arabian culture. I had the opportunity to talk with the students and the lecturer. They said that it is high-contact culture and they thought if it would be a problem or not. They thought that it is not and they asked me questions.
I thought it was interesting class and I enjoyed it because I had a chance to talk.

The lecturer was talking about how every product is connecting to the other. if a price of a product gone up, there would be others that goes up, too. For example, if the gas price gone up, almost everything else would go up because they depend on the gas. I think this class was really simple and easy. I understood maybe 90% or more. The lecturer was speaking clearly and loudly enough to understand.

Class Visitation Report
The main topic was “First Impression”. When we meet someone, especially in business place, first impression is important part. We could judge people by first impression. In this class, according to different situations, like employee & employer, teacher & students, each people played with partners. And then they talked about their experiences related to first impression. By now, I participated three U.N.C.G classes. Three classes have common things. The common things were that America classes focusing on principle and basic. Instead of absorbing the contents by professor, students spend many times on discussing with classmates in class time. These kinds of things are different things comparing to my university classes.

Course Title: Modern European History
Professor: Dr. Josheph Ross
The main topic was 'the social contract' by Rousseau. To me, it was pretty hard topic since I don't have much knowledge of it. That class was 100% discussion which encourage students to participate. A student who attend class told me that this class is taken on Monday and wednesday. Monday is normal lecture day and wednesday is 100% discussion day. I was really surprised that students can learn the conception of general will, soverign and forfeit individual rights to the benefits by discussting. Frankly speaking, even if it was really dificult to understand, the class gave me really new and great impression.

Course Title: Introduction to Media studies
Professor: Dr. Franklin Donalson.
The most surprising thing was that professor gave the result of last quiz to students back with assistant in person. The scene is hard to see in my University. Our professor think it giving back to students something in person is waste of time and just put on the desk. I think Dr. Donalson respects each student in his class.
The theme of that day was book. Professor said that book is printed media which is the categories of mass media based on technology. Then, he explained historical features of books briefly. Personally, I don't like reading a book, but from now on, I should change my mind because I obseved UNCG class even if I couldn't understand well.

Whenever I visit UNCG class and see the scene of class in drama, I always feel that American students are so active in class. I think Korean students are little passive by the professor.
When professor asked something or requireed them to raise their hands, students took part in eagerly. Students are not reluctant to talk about their interpersonal or intrapersonal experience about leisure. And professor used screen that summary was written. With explanation, summary and classmates' talk, students can get perfect knowledge about leisure.
Anthony, I want to change my third one to this!! I'm so sorry for confusing and bothering. If it is possible, please erase my third post.

The professor talked about trade. He gave us example as he compared the production of two countries. Every country has different natural resources and different production. Some countries produce more beer than pizza for example. The professor explained to us about the comparative and absolute advantage why countries won’t stop producing even if they don’t have comparative or absolute advantage. He also talked about the Wallstreet and the crises that US economy is in right now. It was very interesting that the professor gave us examples of his personal life.

Course & Title: Nutrition
Professor: B Burgin Ross
The professor talked about Carbohydrates. They are sugar, starches and fiber. People all over the world eat different food to provide their bodies with energy. Carbohydrates are essential nutrients that give people energy. The main source of fuel for our cells is glucose. Plants are rich of carbohydrates and they form carbohydrates in a process called photosynthesis. Carbohydrates are separated into two groups – simple (monosaccharide and disaccharide) and complex (polysaccharide). The simple carbohydrates consist of one or two units. Monosaccharides are glucose, fructose and galactose. Disccaharydes are sucrose, maltose and lactose. Polysaccharides are starch, fiber and glucogen. They consist of long chain and branches of sugars linked together (amylase, amylopectin etc.). The professor also explained the process of delivering different kinds of carbohydrate and how our bodies use them.

Course & Title: Religions
Professor:
The professor talked about the Sacred Sources of Judaism. He explained the Texts of Rabbinical Judaism. There are Hebrew Bible, Oral traditions and Talmud. Talmud consists of Mishnah, Gemara, Palestinian Talmud and Babylonian Talmud. The professor said that it is very important for Jews to understand Mishnah. If they don’t understand it that means that they don’t understand their religion. Jews don’t have priests, they have Rabbis. Rabbis don’t stand for you in front of God. They only teach you, guide you and instruct you but they can’t regulate people’s relations with God. The professor also talked about the Holly Days. For example: Rash Hashanah is a New Year, Sukkot is a blessing of the fruit that feed us.

The professor talked about water. Where is water located? He explained that water is in oceans, the atmosphere, underground... After that, he explained the circulation of water. I studied it in high school, so it was easy to understand. However, I didn't know the verb- like when water changes into vapor. That was the only difficulty of the class. So overall it was understandable.

course title:fundamentals of drawing
i got interested in this class to compare with the classes that i had in brasil in the design school.
the class started with the professor giving some instruction for drawing.
the main theme of this class was light and shadows.
the professor was saying that one of the most important things about drawing is seeing the object as a combination of shadows as light, the image is formed by shadows and light not by lines.
after the instructions the students started to draw and the professor would go around observing, correcting the students and answering questions.
i liked the class, but there wasn't much conversation to observe.

The main topic was “Discussion naked book”. The professors chose some page and kept asking students some questions. Some students were involved in the class, but some of them were very quiet. The teacher mentioned that how was American culture family in 1950s.
I realized that the class was interesting and exciting. Also the class is similar to R W class, because both classes have to read novel and write essay. I like the teacher style, because, he is easy going and joking with students, and at the same time, he teaches and make students involved.

Class Visitation Report
The main topic was “Discussion hurricane Katrina”. The professors showed video about victims of the hurricane Katrina in 2005.Then, she kept asking students politic questions such as how Bush deal with this problem. Most students share their opinions and interact with video.
I realized that the class was making students interact with the subject. In my opinion politic science has more discussions and arguments than other subject. It was an exciting class; because most students were interact with video and teacher questions.
